Alfonso VIII, king of Castile, went through serious difficulties and, while staying in the city of an ally, he heard Saint Dominic preach about the Holy Rosary. Moved by his words, he decided to pray it every day for a year. On the following Christmas, the Virgin appeared to him, gave him a rosary, and told him that his faults had been forgiven. The king returned filled with joy, and when he touched the queen’s eyes with the rosary, she recovered her sight.
Later on, he gathered troops, regained his lands, and achieved repeated victories. He always prayed the Rosary on his knees before entering battle, enrolled his entire court in the confraternity, and both he and the queen continued this devotion with perseverance.
